In Hamberg, a district of Neuhausen in the Enzkreis, the Grüner Wald country inn at Hauptstraße 2 is one of the region's oldest taverns — set in the Biet landscape protection area. From Ferienpark Schellbronn and Schellbronn village, Hamberg is about five minutes by bike or a short drive.
The house has three dining areas: at the Braustüble (Phoenix Bräu- & Rockstüble) you get Swabian and Baden cuisine, house-brewed Calva-Nigra beers and a beer garden in the courtyard. The menu is available as a PDF on the Braustüble website; lunch specials and weekly menus are also published on gruenerwald.de. For fine dining, Alte Baiz under chef Claudio Urru welcomes guests Thu–Sat evenings; menus and reservations via altebaiz.gruenerwald.de. The Grüner Wald country inn adds Fri–Sun evening and Sunday lunch service.
Directly opposite at Hauptstraße 5 is the Hamberger Brauwerkstatt — just a few steps from Grüner Wald. The team has brewed naturally cloudy Calva-Nigra beers there since 2018; at the Braustüble they arrive fresh from the tap. To look behind the scenes, book a brewery tour: a walkthrough from the brew house to bottling, tasting of all varieties, beer glass and certificate — then finish the evening in the Braustüble or beer garden. Prices and dishes change seasonally — we do not list individual dishes or prices because the operators update their menus regularly. If you want to plan ahead, download the Braustüble menu or call; third-party portals online are often incomplete. Reservations are usual for Alte Baiz; dogs are welcome in the Braustüble and beer garden, not in Alte Baiz.
Hamberg works well after a hike: the Jubilee Trail leads through Hamberg forest past Fliegerbrunnen, Hegarhütte and Schwarzer Brunnen into the village centre; from Steinegg you can descend via forest chapel and castle ruins in about an hour. The shorter Hamberg loop from the sports ground (about one hour) also ends at the inn — then Braustüble, Alte Baiz or beer garden. For dining in the village, Schellbronn has the Schwarzwaldstuben at the campsite; during the day there is the wave-pool kiosk on Freibadweg.
