Grunhutte Kaltenbronn - hike & blueberry pancakes
Forest inn Grunhutte in the Northern Black Forest: 5-7 km hike through moor and forest, famous blueberry pancakes - seasonal service Wed-Sun, late-autumn closure period.
About one hour by car from Schellbronn lies the Kaltenbronn high-moor area, and in the forest between Wildseemoor and Bad Wildbad stands the Grunhutte. For more than 50 years, the Schraft family has served hikers, cyclists and winter sports visitors with Swabian food. Cars stay below: road access is closed, so the last section is on foot or by bike for about 5 to 7 km, roughly one hour depending on route.

A popular start is hiking car park F on L 76b above Kaltenbronn - with info center and wildlife enclosure nearby. The path leads through Northern Black Forest landscapes; a highlight is the boardwalk at Wildsee through moorland with cottongrass. Alternative starts from Bad Wildbad or from the Sommerbergbahn are also well marked, often following the Black Forest Club's Mittelweg trail.
After arrival, many order the blueberry pancakes, the hut's signature dish. You also get Maultaschen, liver spaetzle and homemade cake. Cozy indoor room, beer garden in summer, and winter sports guests are welcome too. Opening is Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00; Monday and Tuesday closed. In late autumn, the hut usually has a closure period, typically from early November to mid-December, then often reopening for winter season.
Cash payment only, no table reservations; on good-weather weekends it can get busy, so weekday visits are calmer when possible. E-bike charging station is available. From April to October, an optional Grunhutte shuttle runs from Bad Wildbad (registration through tourist information). Pack sturdy shoes, weatherproof clothing and some patience at the counter - the forest approach is part of the outing.
